Rates

Sapien Law, LLC uses the following cost ranges based on the type of legal case involved.  Fees are negotiable based on each case.

Criminal Defense

Charges may vary depending on the particulars of a client's case.  Our potential clients, however, are entitled, without any obligation, to a specific, reasonable estimate before entering into any agreement.  In criminal cases, we use a simple tier system for estimating costs based on the seriousness of the crime.  Petty misdemeanors are the less complex and therefore less costly.  Serious felonies, however, are more complex and time consuming and therefore cost more.  For specific cost estimates, please feel free to contact us.

Civil Law

Personal Injury & Wrongful Death

These types of cases are generally handled on a contingency fee basis.  The percentage rates vary on whether a case is settled before litigation or whether a trial is required.  Typically, attorneys may require a 30 to 40 percent contingency fee.

A recovery in the form of final settlement is never guaranteed and generally attorney fees may only be collected if a settlement is reached.  Fees are computed before the deduction of any costs which are discussed below.

Costs

Depending on the type of case involved, a retainer from the client may be required to cover anticipated expenses.

Fees

Some cases may be handled by our attorneys on an hourly rate.  Please contact us to learn more about the hourly rate for individual attorneys at our firm.

The total fee charge will depend upon the number of hours which must be devoted to the particular matter to be handled for each client, and the client is entitled without obligation to an estimate of the fee likely to be charged.

Taxes and Expenses

New Mexico gross receipts taxes will vary from year to year and are usually between 6 and 8 percent of gross revenue.  Clients are responsible for these costs in addition to regular fees.  Additionally, clients are responsible for actual expenses such as travel expenses and compensation to expert witnesses.
